Kati's Review

Owl City

Is a sythnpop musical project made by singer Adam Young. Adam Young started out making music when he was young in his parent’s basement. He lived in Owatonna, Minnesota.
His music is a mixture of Disco, Alternative rock, emo and electronic. After two amazing albums that Young made, his third album under, the name Owl City, Ocean Eyes was a very popular album from 2009. "Fireflies" a song from Ocean Eyes, was the #1 single on U.S. Billboard's Hot 100. "Fireflies" was the most downloaded song on iTunes in 2009.
Owl City became popular on Myspace. Featured songs on Owl City's Myspace were "Hello Seattle" and "The Saltwater Room" with the singer Breanne Duren.
Adam Young sings about topics such as urban design, the elements, travel, dental care, and also love and romance. Young’s music is primarily synth based, dreamy and atmospheric.
The song "Fireflies" is about memories from his childhood. The music video was directed by Steve Hoover. It features Adam Young in a toy-filled bedroom where most of the toys come to life. All the toys are old toys from the 1970’s and 80’s, also in the video are vintage household items such as an old TV and record player. Some of the lyrics are:
"I'd like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It's hard to say that I'd rather stay
Awake when I'm asleep
'Cause everything is never as it seems
When I fall asleep".

These lyrics are a great example of his childhood and how he tried to sleep and never falls asleep. Why can't he sleep? It seems to me that he makes us try to think about these things.

I like Adam Young's voice because it's very soothing and soft. He is very unique because he is creatative in his music and lyrics.
